Static vs. Dynamic

Websites can be created one of two ways: Static or Dynamic.

Static websites are sites that are created and uploaded to a server and then cannot be changed. If you have news to add to the website, or a new product, you will have to contact your designer and have them add the information on the original files, and re-upload them to the internet.

Dynamic websites are sites that are created and uploaded to the server with coding allowing them to extract data in specified locations on the webpage from specified databases (also held on the server). This means that if I, as a designer create a website for you, and you want to add news or a product, you can log into your database and make the change, and the new information will be displayed imeadiatley on your site (think of a Blog).

I generally recommend my clients start with a dynamic site. Although more expensive up front, they will save you money in the long run as you are able to change information yourself, rather than having to re-hire your designer every time you want to make a change.*

*You can change some elements. Others may need to be done by the designer.
