Last Sunday evening Wyatt and I learned the sad news that our dear Prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away. We were both heart broken at this, though we know his joy is full.

I haven’t been able to articulate my feelings about this dear man, or what he meant to me or my generation. He was the man who taught me the gospel, the man who has led my faith and been a beacon of light in a sometimes lone and dreary world. The words that have echoed in my mind as I have reflected on his life and service this past week, have

been the words sung by the faithful of this dispensation of all of our beloved prophets:

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

This morning Wyatt and I were able to pay our last respects to President Hinckley as we attended his viewing. It was a grey day, with soft snow muting the sounds of the world. There was a distinct peace and spirit about the occasion, and I noted, that with each of the dear family treasures displayed, that his family was especially wonderful to share him with us at this time, as they have for over forty years.
